Having killed a hundred people since his hiring from Katsura a year ago, Kenshin has started having doubts about his actions, and particularly regarding his philosophy of who he is supposed to kill.

As the movie starts, Kenshin is already a notorious killer moving in the shadows of Kyoto, according to the orders of Katsura, who leads the Choshu clan, a group of anti-shogun members. The story essentially focuses on the beginnings of Kenshin as Hitokiri Battosai, which is portrayed through a series of flashbacks. However, and although the ending of the story was essentially known due to the previous film (which I felt should be watched last actually) the final episode is actually quite good, on par with the previous trilogy, at least for the most part. There are also many times when the game can appear somewhat monotone in colour, making some objects difficult to distinguish from others.The conclusion of what came to be the pentalogy of Rurouni Kenshin live action movies, was another much anticipated film of the year, even though the 4th entry bordered on being disappointing, with the exceptions of a few action scenes.

You can then decide where to go and what you want to do, be that set up a new city, become a crime lord, or do anything else you can think of, so long as you don't get killed along the way. You first choose your character's appearance in the comprehensive character customiser, then pick where your life starts: maybe in a city as a lowly but strong and capable slave, or out in the wilderness with little hope for survival. With a detailed environment, no story to follow, and limitless ways to play, it offers a uniquely open experience. With no central story, it allows you to go anywhere and play however you like, be that as a city dweller who never ventures into the wider world or a ruthless warlord who fights the other factions. Kenshi is a single player role-play game where you have complete control over your character and how they live their life.
